SIGNIFICANT OTHER – NEVIN ALADAG

According to the small world phenomenon, every person is linked to every other person within six degrees of separation. Statistically impossible, the paths are streamlined by personal networks and “superspreaders,” which function as connectors. To Nevin Aladağ it is not the world-spanning potential of these networks that is in focus, but it underlines the trust of personal relations in her performance of “Significant Other.”

Nevin Aladağ interviews people in her life, turning these interviews into a sound collage constructing fictional relationships between them. This creates the portrait of a community as it could exist. To do this, Aladağ uses the pop music technique of playback and transfers the many voices to just two performers. Nevin Aladağ has worked with lip-synching before, in her solo performances "Nevin Aladağ interviewt Nevin Aladağ" and "Hochparterre", for "Significant Other" she developed it into a dialogue work for the first time.
